Our friend Heather promised that the moment we tried MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, our life would be forever changed—and she was right.

This week we gave this light mineral powder a whirl and can’t believe the sweet coverage. The slowly baked minerals offer a sheer, natural-matte finish without looking flat. Also, it’s sheer enough to touch-up throughout the day without building up and caking.

Today we spent 8 hours traveling—leaving home at an ungodly hour—yet we arrived at our destination this evening with a fresh and even-toned complexion.

Aside note: Are any of you fans of the Fox drama House? (If you’re not—you should be!) Last night, we just happened to watch the episode where they think a passenger on the same flight as Dr. House has bacterial meningitis and quite possibly infected the entire plane—which had us obsessively applying Purell and covering our face with a scarf for the entire flight today. And yes, we understand the difference between reality and fantasy, but you really should watch this show—Hugh Laurie is riveting.

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural comes in five shades: Light, Medium, Medium Dark, Dark and Deep Dark and is a great alternative to loose powder while we’re on the road.

*12/09/07 Update: The Medium shade is not discontinued, it’s just on backorder and very hard to find. We’ve been using this in Light, but Medium is probably more appropriate for our skin tone. (If we can ever get our hands on some, we’ll try that shade next.)

MAC’s newest collections, Flashtronic and Rushmetal are hitting counters today!

The baked Mineralize Eye Shadow and Mineralize Skinfinish powders of the Flashtronic Collection are little works of art, with several shades swirled together in marble perfection. Our favorites are By Jupiter, a light taupe (imagine!) with beige and deep brown veining, and Ether, a deep aqua with silver, black, and gold veining. (Athough Mercurial, yellow gold with lilac and chestnut veining, came very close to making the cut.)

Full of shimmer and shine, the rich, metallic Pigments of the Rushmetal Collection are the perfect accessory to sun-kissed summer skin. We couldn’t do without Mauvement (surprise–taupe, again!) and Cocomotion, a dirty gold with olive undertone and gold sparkle.

Rushmetal also brings a lipstick to die for: Fastlane (mauve with silver pearl).

It’s hard for us to imagine spring makeup collections when we haven’t even had our first snow of the season, but as Kristen told us yesterday, come December 26th, a pirouette of pastels otherwise known as the Danse Collection will be gracing MAC counters everywhere.

The Mineralize Skinfinishes in Gissade and Lightscapade are incredible with their veining and swirls of color.

Even the two new pigments Aire-de-blu and Pastorale are impressive.

This week we had the opportunity to meet Diane York-Goldman, the woman behind the acclaimed La Jolla Spa MD and now DYG Mineral Makeup.

Diane (pictured here, center, with staff members Amy and Heidi) treated us to a full mineral makeup experience with her luxurious DYG products, loaded with triple-milled minerals, anti-oxidants and SPF agents that offer light coverage, sun protection and a flawless youthful glow.

We were especially impressed with the Mineral Sheer Tint Foundation, a hypo-allergenic, mineral based, sheer tint foundation that moisturizes and protects while skin appears flawless and radiant. (This comes in five shades: Cameo Glow, Light, Medium, Dark and Natural Glow. Light was the best match for us.)

We also loved the wide variety of Eye Shadow colors (35 of them!) in several different finishes (matte, sheer, iridescent, demi-matte and transparent.)

Also topping our list of favorites from Diane’s line is Super Gloss, a sheer ultra-brilliant formula that delivers transparent shine. With eight shades to choose from, our favorite is Nectar a sweet peachy color that looks great on everyone.
